NYCC Part 1: Thursday Hair, Makeup, and Shoes!

Hello, everyone! I hope that you had a lovely weekend! I know that I most certainly did!

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen that I was out and about at New York Comic Con. The convention took place from Thursday to Sunday at the Javits Center, which fun fact: will be the location for my Bar Exam in July. (Okay, not so fun fact). I was fortunate enough to attend on Thursday and Sunday. Even more fortunately, I was able to not only take a photo with one of my favorite actors, but also have my hair and makeup done by the amazing Valerie Star of Caravan Stylist Studio.

To make a very long story short, the actor in question is Karl Urban (Almost Human, Star Trek, RED, Dredd, Lord of the Rings, Xena: Warrior Princess) and I've been having a series of near-misses with him for the better part of the last few years due to convention cancellations and illnesses. In fact, he was so ill Thursday morning, he nearly skipped the day altogether. But alas, he did not!

I visited Caravan, which is located in the Carlisle Hotel in New York City, at the recommendation of my fellow blogger, Christina of Adventures in Polishedland. Valerie was super warm and welcoming, even though I was early and she had another appointment ahead of me.

Caravan is an entirely new concept in full service styling. Guests aren't charged for their visits to Caravan, nor are the fashion and accessory designers who provide pieces of their collections to the studio. The goal is to connect talent with fashion designers and various other brands to build relationships between the two parties, utilizing social and print media to cross-promote. Frequent visitors to the studio include the cast of Emmy Award-winning series Orange is the New Black.

When discussing my look for the evening, I told Valerie that I wanted big, romantic curls and makeup that would photograph well without being too over the top.

And she more than delivered.

I absolutely fell in love with this look. When I saw it for the first time, I honestly thought I could get away with murder. That's how amazing it was. With the leather jacket, I was vaguely reminded of Sandy at the end of Grease.

Valerie used Kryolan Professional Make-up (that fabulous lip color was created with a combination of Kryolan lip stain in Punk and Rock) to create my look in conjunction with Simple Skin Care moisturizers and makeup remover wipes.

My hair was styled with a variety of Sexy Hair styling products (such as Powder Play Volumizing and Texturizing Powder) and iKonic styling tools.

As someone who doesn't spend a lot of time in front of the mirror, I couldn't stop finding reflective surfaces to glance at throughout the rest of the day.

Oh... and there's the little matter of this incredibly handsome Kiwi actor named Karl Urban...

*Sighs dreamily*

Karl was incredibly sweet and lovely and I cannot thank Valerie and Caravan for helping ensure that I had a fantastic photograph to capture this special moment for me.

I'm dying to hear what you guys think of my hair and makeup! And of the Caravan concept, too!

Stay tuned for Part 2 of my NYCC posts tomorrow, in which I'll talk about how I accessorized to match the Comic Con theme on both days of my visits! (And launch something brand new!)
