Swatch and Review: L'Oreal Masked Affair

TGIF! And in honor of the weekend, I have a VERY exciting swatch to share with you today. It appears that there is now officially a linear holographic polish that is available at drug stores and other national retailers!

And it comes from a very surprising source: L'Oreal!

Masked Affair was released as part of the Dark Sides of Grey Colour Riche collection, which I assume is in honor of the novel "50 Shades of Gray." But whatever the reason, I am incredibly excited that they did!

L'Oreal 701 Masked Affair is a silver linear holo with pinkish undertones.  I used three coats to achieve full opacity, but this dried INCREDIBLY quickly. I honestly could have gone about my day after fifteen minutes and not even remotely dinged it up.

July 4th Big Top Nail Art

Hello, everybody! For all of my American readers, I hope you're having a wonderful July 4th! Today, I have a quick nail art design that I made in honor of America's Birthday, utilizing Essence Style for Summer Nights, Zoya Song, and Zoya Rekha. It was actually surprisingly easy and reminds me of a circurs for a reason I can't put my finger on!

Anyway, I hope that you enjoy your afternoon and evening! I might do a second nail look for fireworks tonight that you'll see tomorrow. Hope you like the nail art!

Swatch & Review: Zoya Magical Pixie Dust Collection for Spring 2014

Hello, everyone! Today, as part of my catching up on swatches, I have the trio of Zoya Spring Pixie Dusts for you to see!

Normally, I'm not a fan of these, but I really think they've won me over!

Zoya Cosmo is a silver crystal texture polish with fine and hex holographic glitter particles. The above is with two coats. I have to sy that I definitely have the non-textured version of this polish as sold by a ton of different other brands, but the textured Pixie Dust version just has so much more pop!

Zoya Lux is a rose quartz texture polish with with fine and hex holographic glitter particles. The above is with two coats. I'm not usually a fan of pink glitters because they just scream super duper girly girl. But this was delicate and eye-catching at the same time.

Zoya Vega is an opal blue texture polish with fine and hex holographic glitter particles. The above is with two coats. And I think she's a beauty that reminds me of the ocean in the tropics!

Overall, I was bowled over by this collection. The shades had such depth and sparkle to them and I loved them so much more than the original line of pixies!

Essie Nail Products Used:

• Ridge Filling Base Coat
• No Place Like Chrome
• Quick-e Drying Drops

Get the look:

1. Apply Ridge Filling Base Coat to clean, filed nails.
2. Once the base coat dries, apply one coat of No Place Like Chrome.
3. Lastly, apply Quick-e Drying Drops to seal in color and enhance shine.

Swatch and Review: Ruby White Tips Gracelyn

Good morning, lovelies! For those of you who spent the last week adjusting from Spring Break to the work week or school, I am just as sad as you are. Except, maybe I've already had my morning coffee and you have not.

But on the plus side, I'm the only one I've seen at school so far who has returned with a tan AND it is warm enough to wear my FAVORITE open-toed wedges. So there could be worse ways for break to end.

Zoya Disney Nails

Good afternoon from sunny Orlando, Florida! I am currently typing this post from my spot in line on Test Track at Epcot! It's a two hour wait, so why not do something productive?

I did two manicures in honor of my trip to Disney, but only decided to wear one. You'll see why with tomorrow's.

For today's nail art, I used all Zoya polishes: Elisa, Trixie, Purity, Raven, and Audrey!

I wanted to do something classy because I have a Passover Seder to attend this week, but something also funky that screams Minnie Mouse!

Hump Day Holo: Julep Rebel

Happy Hump Day, everyone!

Today's post is Julep Rebel, which is billed as a silver scattered holo. It came in my February box and is named for star of Pitch Perfect, Rebel Wilson.

Well, as it turns out, this is not as holographic as billed. Not even scattered. It just seems like a matte silver foil. I was rather disappointed by this. Oh well.

Even though this isn't holographic, do you like Rebel as a matte silver foil?

Maroon 5 Sequin Nails

Happy Saturday, everyone! Thank goodness it's the weekend, right?

Tonight, I'm heading to see Maroon 5 in concert for the 56th time and of course, needed to rock some awesome nails. I've actually be wearing these since Thursday because they doubled as Valentine's Day Nails. The lead guitarist's name is James VALENTINE, so they were twice as appropriate for this reason.

For those of you following me on Facebook, you may have read about my disappointing incident regarding Macy's Herald Square and the Adam Levine appearance to celebrate the launch of his 222 Fragrance. To put it simply, I was given bad information when I called the store after the appearance was announced, relied on it, and was unable to get a pass as a result. And, considering I had spent 2+ hours on these nails, plus got up extra early and traveled into NYC on a non-school day, I was more than a little upset.

But the good news is I'll still be heading into Madison Square Garden tonight to see the band play, along with Neon Trees. I'm disregarding the fact that I'll have to suffer through Owlcity for the fifth time. Oh, they are AWFUL live. Rule of thumb: If you need a wind machine and you're a solo artist, there's a problem.

Anyway, this was my second attempt at a sequin manicure. I used hexagonal glitter I bought at Michael's for $10 with a coupon. The set has twelve different colors, but I only used the red, black, and silver.

I painted on coat of Rimmel Black Satin on each nail (two coats on the ring finger). Then I applied top coat in small sections of each nail as I went to make sure it didn't dry before I could stick on a sequin. I trimmed down some pieces of glitter to fit them to the tip and applied a coat of Seche Vite to the whole nail as soon as I stuck on the last piece. Doing the Maroon 5 logo on the ring fingers was the easiest part!

In order to pick up the sequins, I let a drop of top coat on a paper plate dry until it was tacky, pressed the tiniest dotting end I had against it, and used that to pick up/place sequins. Oh, it was a pain!

In the end, I was really happy with how it came out. It was tedious as heck to alternate the red, black, and silver like I did. It needed about four coats of Seche Vite in order to smooth it out to the point where it wasn't snagging on everything I own. Consequently, I had a bit of an issue with bubbles in the top coat, but it isn't noticeable outside of macro shot.

I love how crazy sparkly this is. And the colors are that vivid in real life. It's starting to fade a little now because the top coat seems to eat away at the seal on the sequins, so this won't last much longer than a few days.

I can't imagine doing two full hands again, unless I was guaranteed the chance to meet Adam down the road. But I could easily see myself using this technique for an accent nail!

Top of 2012: Silver

I only have one top silver shade for 2012. I'm not one for metallics or overly glitter silvers that aren't holos.

In the end, this shade shouldn't come as a surprise to you all.

What silver could be more suited to Princess Polish than one named after the Queen of England?

Lillibet's Jubilee from butter LONDON was released to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II's fifty years on the throne. And this silver metallic with lavender undertones was simply smashing.

Class, but unique... very fitting for Liz II indeed!

Swatch and Review: Whimsical Ideas by Pam Seuss for World Diabetes Day

Hi everyone! Today's a brief post in honor of World Diabetes Day and I must send out a big thank you to Victoria of Manicurator for this polish. She sent it to me as part of my birthday group this month!

 

Seuss by Whimsical Ideas by Pam is a milky turquoise polish with blue microglitter and red and silver hexagonal glitters suspended inside! This is with three coats and it applied beautifully.

I. Love. This.

Why?

 Because it reminds me of my very own Thing 1 and Thing 2, of course! Red, blue, and silver... The Cat in the Hat? How could it be anything else! :-D
